So I'd recently logged into my spyke_166@yahoo.com yahoo mail and lo! I found something I shouldn't have. Apparently, someone accidentally used my yahoo email to sign up for Friendster and they are asking me to verify my email. So I did the logical human thing and tried to log into that new & foreign account that I did not register for.
Turns out that guy's from The Philippines by the ID of hayukito. And since I obviously do not have his password, I asked Friendster to send me via lost password option. And to my surprise, they sent it to me! Like wtf lol!! They just sent it to me without question!
I had since closed that account.

And then I saw that I have a new mail on the yahoo homepage mail thingie so I logged in again and lo! I found another thing that I shouldn't have. Sitting in my inbox is this email by some Russian sounding person from bizrateshop.com saying that my account is past due with a Christmas surprise for me. Like wtf lmao!!
It gets better. That email was addressed to spyke_12@yahoo.com. spyke_12 and spyke_166. That's like a hundred and fifty-four numbers away from each other. Yahoo failed math.
So that's it. I don't think it's right for them internet people to be so lax when it comes to online security so I wrote them (yahoo & friendster) a feedback. Don't really think it'll be of any use but hey, it makes me happy.

To yahoo:
I'm not sure if this should be a flame or an angry feedback to the yahoo! mail management but I've had many emails that do not belong to me sent to my spyke_166 account.
The first instance was when I received an email asking me to verify my Friendster account. I most definitely did not register an account in Friendster with this email address but here I am with this email. Out of curiosity, I was able to log into the account using the lost password email sent to me. I had since closed the Friendster account.
I had sent an email to Friendster informing them of this security breech.
And today, when I log in to check my mail, I found an email that was sent to spyke_12@yahoo.com sitting in my inbox. How did an email sent to spyke_12 end up in my spyke_166 account?
This incident did not inspire any assurance in the already-dubious internet. I hope you will take note of this feedback and strengthen the security of yahoo! mail systems.

To Friendster:
I'm not sure if this should be a flame or an angry feedback to the Friendser management but I've had an account activation email sent to me via Yahoo! Mail (spyke_166@yahoo.com) regarding an account I did not sign up for.
As I'd already own a Friendster account under a different email, I did not see the need to create another account and most definitely did not register an account in Friendster. So out of curiosity, I tried to log into the account but since I obviously do not have the password to this new one, I opted for the lost password to be emailed to me. And to my surprise, I got the lost password email & was able to log into the new account.
I had since closed the Friendster account (hayukito from The Philippines) and I had sent an email to Yahoo! Mail informing them of this security breech.
This incident did not inspire any assurance in the already-dubious internet. I hope you will take note of this feedback and strengthen the security of Friendster's system.
