As some of you might know, Singapore's anime fanbase is being threatened by a local company whose website had been under construction since I left secondary school eons ago.
Link to: Singapore Company to Name DownloadersOdex, Singapore's main anime distributor, has seen a drop of 60 to 70 percent in sales in the past two years, largely due to an increase in downloads, Sing said. It's official people. They are doing this because we ain't buying their obscenely priced boxsets (collect at least 2 for complete series) with crappy video quality and incoherent, grammatically atrocious English "subs".
Why should I waste SGD$30 per box on those cheap imitations being passed off as genuine anime when I can watch them for free?
Why should I waste SGD$30 per box on when I can get the whole series for a little more direct from foreign distributors?
Why should I waste SGD$30 per box when anime omake(extras) that are in virtually every DVD sets available anywhere else aren't even included with the set???
I bought a series (2 sets of em to make 1 complete series) from them earlier this year and to my horror, one of the most crucial episode of the entire series was not included!!
By the time I realized this, the store's defects-return-within-one-month policy had just ended.
So I ended up spending SGD$60 on an anime that was incomplete and the episode that was missing was the one I had been looking forward to all week!
Senior Writer Andy Ho had written an article in The Straits Times (16 August 2007) that I wholeheartedly agreed with. ((Will post a scan of the article when I ain't so sleepy... Check back soon~))
