I am a hipster way before it meant what it meant
...Or I could just be weird. XD
...I cannot help but notice there are an increasing amount of references to hipsters lately and I wondered what all the fuss was about. So I poked around and found
this. Little did I know, I'd been a hipster for years! And according to that, I'm only Step 13 & Step 15 away from being a true hipster. Noooooooo... /deny
I know that I'm a smug, selfish, narcissistic elitist wallowing in my own pathetic wit 3 steps in front of the rest of the world because everyone's not caught up with me yet.
That's what I tell myself when people don't respond to my blog and Facebook posts. Pitiful but not untrue XDWhat I didn't know is that it made me a hipster. Damn hipsters stealing my thunder. Everyone's a hipster now. Grrr...
I am well-known for my sarcasm ever since secondary school where that trait earned me many many friends. Everyone loved me for my blunt, biting tact. I tried irony once but everyone took me seriously so I had to tell them I was kidding. And to think, I'm the one who can't read expressions.
And don't get me started on trying to tell them about this show/band/movie. Jess once said "I don't think I would like that because our tastes are different" after I tried to tell her about CSI and a month later, she squee'd to me, "OMG you hafta watch this show! It's called CSI and--" I had to cut her off with an indignant "I know. I tried to tell you about that show before. You said you wouldn't like it because our tastes are different." =__="
I've been to the video store many times when I wanted to find a particularly obscure tv/movie and every time, they'd tell me they don't have it. 3sa sad. :( I had to find them on ebay and worry about getting conned. Again. Or pay a lot of money on Amazon or other similar sites for less worry.
I also spend too much time trying to explain my pop culture references to people and lament at the sad fact that a lot of them don't get it. And I spend more time getting pissed when everyone got it. Gods... I think I spent many movie credits exchanging notes with bro on what our fellow movie patrons got and did not get based on their reaction to the scene and we were both shaking our heads at the ratio.
Even though I am known to appreciate big blockbusters/productions/radio gaga, I do love me some indie stuff. Give me dry wit and mindfuck any day. But I'm too cheap for musicals and theater. If only I was richer...
Which brings me to work. I never really thought about working. The most I planned for was to get through primary school, get through secondary school, get through poly and get a degree. Or two. Or three if I still haven't figured out what I want to do for the rest of my life. XD
But I need money to buy books and gadgets and stuff so I hafta work. :( Who wants to work, right?
And of course, I am definitely not the most fashion-conscious person. It's usually printed tees and jeans for me. I love quirky prints/stuffs with obscure references on them and getting ppl to read off my bossom. XD Unfortunately, Threadless had gotten mainstream and their quality dropped so much that both me and Nat decided to not get stuffs there no more. Not sure about her but that decision still stands for me.
It's hard to find something that isn't mass produced from China here so the part about supporting my little known retailers is pretty impossible. I have no art sense so I don't hang out with those skinny-ass starving artists or get to know them local designers so meh... XD
I also like my flannel shirts and big belt buckles. Bro says I'm compensating for something and he'd be right. I have a lot more to compensate for. More so than all the little
girls boys with their male genitalia. I want Wolowitz's belt collection damnit!
Boots, bags and accessories! Since young, I have been influenced by my cool uncle who only wears boots to be cool and wear boots and high tops. So much love for them. <3 I also cannot get enough of bags and accessories (as evident from most of my impulse buys) even though I always use the same bag and don't accessories much. My excuse for the bags? Because it can still be used. And the accessories? Laziness. I can don't buy clothes for months on end but I cannot don't buy bags and accessories if one caught my eye.
And what else? Oh, bed hair. I don't like flat rebonded hair (as evident from all my hair snipping reasons). I like my messy poofy hair. But instead of the hipster stylishly messy, I usually get ugly unkempt. So I snip them short and try again. Rinse and repeat for the rest of my life.
Before I go, I would like to say I liked RDJ before he was Iron Man, Donnie Yen before he was Ip Man and Zheng Geping before he toned up and became the hot uncle he is now. Among other things. XD
Now that I have established my characterization, I shall commence obtaining the appropriate wardrobe to match my newfound label. I wanna go shopping!
